Sandwich emerges Overall champion in 8th LASU inter-faculties Championship

The 8th Lagos State University (LASU ) inter-faculty/campuses championship that commenced on Monday, July 16, 2012 and ended on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at the University's Sports Centre, Ojo, with Sandwich Programme emerging over champion.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Omolara Bamgboyen who represented the Vice Chancellor, Professor John Obafunwa at the closing ceremony, urged the students to take sports very serious. She added that if combined effectively with academics, they can achieve a lot and reach the top.
Prof. Bamgboye took the traditional kick off to start the Final Female Football match between the Sandwich and Faculty of Management Sciences.
The Director, Sports Centre, Dr F.O Adiatu who's stood for the Chairman, LASU Sports Council, Prof. Ademola Onifade advised the sportsmen to always be good competitors. He thanked the Vie Chancellor and the University Management for their encouragement and support for sports development in the Varsity.
Adiatu also commended the Management on the scholarship given to the athletes who made the university proud at the West African Universities Games (WAUG) held at University of Ilorin, Kwara State.
The final scores of the highly entertaining match was with 5 goals for. Sandwich and Faculty of Management Sciences, 3.
Thus, the sandwich girls were champions for the third conservative time, having won last two editions. The closing ceremony was witnessed by members of the university staff, members of the sports Council, executives of the Students' Union and students from various faculties.
In the 8-day championship, the sporting events competed for included Soccer (female), Volleyball (female), Chess (Male and female), Handball (Male and Female), Table Tennis (Male and Female) and Taekwondo (Male and Female).
