22YRS OLD TURN A LITERALLY GIANT
The event which was organized in conjunction with Association of Nigeria Authors and Echo Press Organization was massively attended as students, journalists; academia and Unical staff floated the venue to give kudos to a young chap who distinguished himself among peers. The chairman of the occasion, Prof. Who is the dean of faculty of Arts recounted that being students entails having the courage to research and to contribute to knowledge through writing, he recounted that Comr. Onyekache for the few time he has known him has proven that he has some exceptional knowledge which calls for encouragement.
The event which was anchored by Prof. Aboki has in attendance Prof. F. U. Angrey , Dean Faculty of Arts; Dr. Offiong Ani Offiong, Sub-Dean Faculty of Arts; Dr. Samuel Obute, HOD Linguistics and Communication who presented the books; Dr. Bassey Nkponong who represented the Association of Nigeria Authors, Dr. Tony Eyang; Mrs. Francis Ganyi; Dr. (Mrs.) Joy E.; Prof. (Mrs.) Grace Okereke; Dr. Alex Timothy; Mr. and Mrs. Onuoha, friends and well wishers among others. Equally represented are members of the press ranging from NTA Crew to Vanguard, Nation, Echo Press, NAPSS Press reporters to other members of NUJ and NUCJ.
Meanwhile, the five books presented includes “The Moonlight Lady” which was reviewed by Tony Eyang; “Idara” reviewed by Prof. Mrs. Grace Okereke; “Drops of fascination and other poems” reviewed by Dr. Alex Timothy” which according to the reviewer is divided into 5 phases, thus, while the phase one articulates the activities of man and the nature. Phase two deals on campus issues and beyond, the third delve into socio-political issues and phase four looks at the environmental issues in south-south Nigeria while the last phase looks at mystery to the will of man. Other reviewers include Dr. (Mrs.) Joy Etiwo while Mr. Francis Ganyi reviewed “Aluta Struggle”.
In the young writer’s speech which he captioned “THE WRITER AS THE EYE AND EAR OF HIS AGE” Onyekachi noted that it is paramount that people write hence writing help in bringing decadence to fore as well as showcases the intellectualism of that age hence human has different stages in life. In his word that “it is necessary to note that the 21st century has entrusted to the youth an exceptional responsibility as a result of the challenges in climate change, unemployment, the inheritance of hybrid culture without interrogation and feminism amongst others. These issues have stirred up for instance, violence and peaceful dialogues amongst the youth”. He further stated that “I write because I believe that I have something important to say. I write because my society has entrusted to me a sacred duty of helping it to understand itself and to find its place in a volatile and changing world. I write because I believe that that is the most effective means to dialogue with the society… I write from the perspective of a youth because as a writer of my age, I believe that I am the eye and are of my generation” he summed.
The books reviewer at the event include Tony Enyian who reviewed the moonlight Lady, Prof. (Mrs.) Grace Okereke who reviewed Idara while Dr. Alex Timothy reviewed Drops of Fascination and other poems which he said is compressed of 58 poems a(57 poems and appreciation, hence the appreciation itself is also a poem) divided into 5phases. Phase one articulates the activities of man and the nature (environment), phase two treats issues on campus and beyond, phase three looks at socio-political issues and phase four focuses mainly on south-south of Nigeria environment as well as the predicaments of its inhabitants, while the last phase delved into the mystery to the will of man. Dr. Alex stated that errors (par say) cannot be easily noted in the work hence “it is really not apparent on what constitutes errors in poems. Other reviewers are Dr. (Mrs.) Joy Etiowo who reviewed The Heresy of Gossip which is comprised of 29 poems and Mr. Francis Ganyi who reviewed the last work “Aluta Struggle”
Speaking to our crew about the author, Odama Denis a course mate asserted that “Onyekachi is an intelligent, smart and creative student, he has distinguished himself as a writer and has cave a niche for himself. He has shown that his stay in Unical is not a waste. It takes hard work, resilience and focus to do such a great work and that entails that whoever want to make it in life must be focused”
On his own part, Mr. Peter Chidizie Onuoha, the father of Onyekach described onyekachi as a wonderful child. Speaking further, he said that “I sponsored the work because I love education, hence writing such piece affords him (Onyekachi) a medium of speaking out aloud. I advise the undergraduates to focus on what their parents sent them for during their academic stay”. Ifeoma Onuoha (the elder sister of Onyekachi who is an importer) was full of praise to God for helping their family go thus far as she described their family as “tree people expect to fall but has risen beyond imagination”. She advised the youth to look above their limitations and always seek God’s consent in their endeavors.
