Los Baños Group and its volunteers,conduct a feeding program

LOS BAñOS, LAGUNA, Philippines, July 14 -- LOS BAÑOS, LAGUNA PHILIPPINES- As part of the celebration of the Nutrition Month, a feeding program was held and spearheaded by the Los Baños Group together with its volunteers namely: Rotary International-Makiling District, UP Sigma Alpha NU Sorority, Singles For Christ Los Baños Chapter and the Barangay Nutrition Scholars last July 14 at the Municipal Covered Court of Los Baños.

The said program was entitled, “Los Baños Group Feed A Child Program” which has a goal of giving nutritious foods to the children of different barangays in Los Baños.
123 children together with their mothers from 10 barangays including Tadlac, Timugan, Lalakay, Maahas, Bambang, Malinta, Putho-Tuntungin,Batong Malake, Baybay at Anos attended the program of the LB Group.

The event started through a “Storytelling” lead by the members of the UP Sigma Alpha NU and followed by the deworming process of the children. After these, the distribution of foods like rice soup, chicken, Yakult, bread and juice came next. According to Mary Jane Corcuera, Program and Development Chairman of Los Baños Group, their association which is composed of the volunteer citizens of Los Baños started on August 26 last year.

Los Baños Group has the goal to give service to their co-citizens through conducting different programs which are related to nutrition and environment.

Although their group just started last year, they held different programs like the Linis Lawa and another feeding program last May 26. “This event (the recent feeding program) is just a part of our aim to monitor the health status of the malnourished children here in Los Baños because we are going to have a six month feeding program for us to give the nutritional needs of the children,” said Corcuera.

While according to Municipal Nutrition Action Officer, Maria Cerezo, “Although their program is just a one day event, it was nutritious and it can help to boost the nutrition of the children.”
On the other hand, a housewife from Brgy. Maahas named Rowena Pamulaklakin also shared her opinion about the event, “We had an idea on how to provide good health to our children and on choosing to the right foods for them,” said Mrs. Pamulaklakin.

The event was ended through the awarding of certificates lead by the UP Sigma Alpha NU to the Barangay Nutrition Scholars who participated on the feeding program.
In relation with this, there will be more programs in line with the celebration of the Nutrition Month including Cooking Contest, Nutrition Jingle Contest,Food Production at Home and Community garden contest that will be held on the different places in Los Baños.
