Indonesia is in Danger
On Monday last week (18/6), Washington DC published Failed State Index (FSI) 2012 which was arranged by The Fund for Peace and Foreign Policy magazine. Indonesia takes place on the 63rd from 178 countries. Last year, Indonesia was on the 64th from 177 countries. Based on this assessment, Indonesia is categorized as “in danger”, approaching failed country.
Indonesia’s rank descended especially because of three aspects. Those aspects always descend in this last five years. The aspects are demography pressure, minority group pressure on society, and human rights.
The problem on demography pressure, races conflicts are happened a lot. Papua problem perhaps is the most complicated and it’s still not finished yet. Human rights are not fulfilled because many citizens still not get protection and life guarantee from the country. One example is about the attack to Ahmadiyah community. Islamic Defender Front (one of the extremist group) always attack community that they consider lost. It impressed that the government is weak to such a community like this.
The result is, some areas in Indonesia are not safe. Riots and violence happened, and the approach to secure the situation is using military. In fact, this approaching spread the riots. This condition is paradox. Indonesia economic index increases up to 6,5%. But the difference between the rich and the poor is so wide.
The social welfare expert and also the Dean of Social Science and Political Science University of Indonesia, Bambang Shergi Laksmono, said the root problem that makes Indonesia in danger is because there is no social welfare guarantee for Indonesia people. Because there is no guarantee, the impoverishments happened and it pushed people to break the security violence.
“The strong economic stability is not balancing with the public service sector to fulfill people’s rights on social welfare. The country doesn’t protect and people feel insecure. The poverty fund allocation is not distributed well. Infrastructures must be repaired, not only in Java Island,” said Bambang.
He also added, the government has to use the peaceful and inclusive approach to avoid violence. And the society has to be re-introduced with pluralism concept, so majority and minority group can tolerant each other.
Indonesia Politic, Law, and Security Coordinator Minister, Djoko Suyanto, said as quoted in Indonesia mass media, the government tries maximum to fix this country situation. Indonesia doesn’t want to be seen as a failure country. He thought, every public element has to fix this situation together, because this country belongs to all of us.
The assessment about Indonesia condition should make the government aware to fix the rule system in this country. Don’t just be proud that Indonesia is the top three of the biggest democratic country in the world but pluralism is abandoned. Don’t just be proud that Indonesia is the member of G-20, but the standard to measure the poverty doesn’t use the G-20 standard.
The government has to do a persuasive and preventive action by proposing a peace dialogue with every element in society, not just doing a repressive action. Bureaucracy system must be fixed also so there will be no more corrupt figures who suffered people.
