Students glimpse "how the professional news world works"

Nicholas Bowman is an assistant professor at Young Harris College in Young Harris, GA, whose journalism class registered for UPIU.com and participated in a "UPIU video mentoring session":http://twitpic.com/3554ga on November 8.

"I’m very excited with the feedback that I’ve read so far from the different UPIU mentors. For the students, they are given a very intern-like experience where they get to see – even just for one story – how the professional news world works."

"I have definitely seen an increase in the number and quality of sources that students are now using in their stories for our campus newspaper. Students are looking for off-campus sources when covering events on-campus, and are not simply talking to just one student or administrator as their only attributed quote or source. I hope to make UPIU a regular part of my reporting courses. Our program at YHC is brand new and I hope that we can grow alongside UPIU as a model of what can happen when industry partners with education."
